Hazelwood Apartment Guide
Live minutes from North County’s biggest concentration of jobs — and know that rents here are climbing.
Realistic rent ranges
Hazelwood averages about $970 for a 1-bedroom and $1,146 for a 2-bedroom (overall average $1,076, July 2026). Fair warning: rents here jumped roughly 9.5% in the past year — the fastest in North County — because people increasingly want to live next to the jobs. Budget options in the $700s–$800s still exist in older communities, but they move fast; neighboring Florissant and Spanish Lake often beat Hazelwood on price for a nearly identical commute.
The job base is the story
Hazelwood is North County’s employment engine. The corridor around Lindbergh, Highway 370, and the airport holds Boeing’s St. Louis defense campus, Amazon fulfillment operations, and a dense cluster of distribution, logistics, and manufacturing employers, plus St. Louis Lambert International Airport itself — thousands of hourly and skilled positions within a 10-minute drive of most Hazelwood apartments. For shift workers, living here can erase an hour of daily commuting.
Getting around
I-270, I-170, and Highway 370 all cross the city, so drivers reach almost anywhere in the metro in under 30 minutes. MetroBus serves the Lindbergh corridor and connects toward the North Hanley MetroLink station, where the train runs to the airport, Clayton, and downtown — one of North County’s better transit setups for car-free commuting, if your apartment sits near a served corridor.
Schools
Nearly all of Hazelwood falls in the Hazelwood School District, one of Missouri’s larger districts, with multiple elementary schools and three high schools (Central, East, West). As everywhere in North County, confirm the exact assignment for your address with the district.
Utilities and groceries
Same setup as the rest of North County: Ameren Missouri electric, Spire gas, Missouri American Water; renters typically pay electric and gas ($100–$200/month combined by season). Groceries along Lindbergh — Aldi, Walmart, Schnucks nearby — plus quick access to Florissant’s New Halls Ferry retail.
What applications expect
The larger corporate-managed communities near the job corridor lean on automated screening — firm 3×-income checks and credit cutoffs — while smaller properties flex more. If your file has bruises, read the credit guide before paying fees, and use the affordability calculator to make sure a rising-rent market still fits your budget.
