Free & Low-Cost Clinics in St. Louis and North County
You do not need insurance to see a doctor in St. Louis. Community health centers charge on a sliding scale based on your income, and St. Louis County health department clinics see patients regardless of ability to pay, with a sliding fee scale for uninsured county residents. Here is where to go.
How sliding-scale clinics work
Community health centers (officially, Federally Qualified Health Centers) are required to see you whether or not you have insurance, and they charge based on what you earn. Bring a photo ID and, if you can, a recent pay stub or other proof of income — that is what sets your fee. If you have no income, say so; you will still be seen. Everything below accepts uninsured patients.

Free and low-cost vaccines
Several options, depending on where you live:
- St. Louis County residents: the county health department runs walk-in vaccine clinics at its health centers, including John C. Murphy (Berkeley) and North Central (Pine Lawn). Call (314) 615-0500 to confirm current hours and fees before you go.
- Uninsured city residents: Affinia Healthcare ((314) 814-8700) and Betty Jean Kerr People's Health Center at 5701 Delmar ((314) 367-7848) offer vaccines on a sliding scale, and some vaccines are free. Ask about cost when you call.
- Anyone with insurance: most routine vaccines are usually covered with no copay at in-network pharmacies like Walgreens and CVS; check your plan.
- Kids: the federal Vaccines for Children program covers uninsured and Medicaid-enrolled children at health department clinics and FQHCs.
What to bring
- Any photo ID you have — if you have none, ask; health centers still see patients without it
- Proof of income if you have it (pay stub, benefits letter) — this sets your sliding-scale fee
- Your insurance or Medicaid card if you have one
- A list of medications you take
Heads up: we checked the details on this page in September 2026, but hours, fees, and policies change. Call before you go.
